Millennials grew up after the Cold War, a tense period in which our gradual slide Leftward was interrupted by the need to swing rightward to meet the threat of the Soviet Union and its potential invasion of Western Europe or use of nuclear weapons.

As a result, much of the Cold War has fallen into the memory hole, a void created by the tendency of people to fill their lives with distraction and then simply forget to pay attention to more important issues that are further away in time. This manic pursuit of novelty has left most of history off our radar.

But now, it seems, the Cold War has returned, in its new form as the ethnic conflict known as “terrorism” or “reconquest”:

For the first time since the end of the Cold War, the German government plans to encourage its citizens to prepare for a catastrophe or armed attack by stockpiling food, water and other supplies, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” reported on Sunday.

…The civil defense strategy would require citizens to have a sufficient supply of food, water, energy, money and medicine to wait out a period until the state would be able to initiate a response to a catastrophe or attack.

During the Cold War, governments treated possible nuclear conflict as they had treated World War II bombing raids, as a fact of life like storms or crop blights. They in effect said to their citizens: we cannot stop the cause of this disaster, so it is up to you. Every man for himself. Civilization is upended by this crisis.

However, the crisis of the Cold War was external — an ideological and geographic competitor and enemy — where our crisis now is self-made. Or is it? What governments are telling voters is that the enemy is external to Governments, meaning that as long as people keep repeating Leftist assumptions, government will like the market actor it is respond by churning out Leftist policy such as multiculturalism which is what allows terrorism to occur in the first place.

In a sane society with no foreigners, there would be no terrorism. There might be incidents like school shootings, but those do not happen in thriving societies, only miserable and moribund ones. After all, kids had access to a lot more firepower in the 1950s through 1980s and somehow failed to shoot up their schools at the rates seen from the 1990s onward.

With our Leftist assumptions in place, we assume that all people are equal, because this pacifism allows us to include everyone in the group without them competing and therefore fighting with each other, or having hurt feelings about their own lowly or not-high-enough role in the hierarchy. We are not wolves, who fight among the pack to ensure that each dog has its place. We allow all in the pack to serve the same role, like yeast.

Because of this assumption of equality, we cannot find in our minds or hearts a single reason to oppose immigration and multiculturalism, despite them mixing into us people who are genetically far different with abilities and needs far different from our own. This creates the conditions of terrorism: the enemy walks among us, disguised like a guerrilla fighter as a civilian, and then attacks at random. No government on earth can stop that, not even with Soviet-style surveillance.

In effect, the German government has said to its people: because you require us to be Leftist, we cannot stop the Other from walking among us, and therefore, terrorist attacks will be a way of life. Good luck to you. And what else would they say? Until the assumption of the Leftist idea of equality is viewed as less than uniform, or even better as outright nonsense encoded in pleasant-looking symbols, governments must do the will of the people. And that will appears to want diversity, which creates terrorism.

From this situation arises a new Cold War. The other 95% of the world hates us, but we have invited them in, so their task becomes simple: destroy us with terrorism on one hand, and play the victim on the other. This process will not calm down, progress or lessen; it is a duel to the death. And now we will see if the West — or some of its people — still retain the will to live, or if the television, beer and sports have become more important.
