Someone reminded me of this old Beatles song — I am not a fan in particular, although I enjoy George Harrison — which somehow has not made it into the modern Leftist consciousness:
Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one for you, nineteen for me
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxmanShould five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don’t take it all
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah I’m the taxmanIf you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t want to pay some more
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxmanNow my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman
And you’re working for no one but me.
If you wanted a summary of modern life in the West, this is it. You work all day to have enough money to avoid being in the ghetto, but because you are not in the ghetto, you get taxed not just at the job, but for your property, and with everything you buy, often in multiple levels.
The money goes to subsidize useless bureaucrats in the name of “the poor,” a term which really means “the dysfunctional,” because neurotics love nothing more than to try to help the doomed simply because they cannot fail at it.
Insoluble problems in fact are the best to crusade against because you will never win, but never lose either, so you will always be reporting some victories but no expectation of victory, although with a little more cash you might get closer, so: about those tax rates…
As the West kills itself off through deaths of despair and hopelessness, few are looking to the “free” money that we keep taking from people until they give up on this world ever making sense or escaping from its tailspin.
This is why you do not place We The People in power. That group is many things, including a whole lot of crazy and lazy that wants someone else to blame for its problems and someone to just give them free things to make them feel better about being dysfunctional.
