So Barack Obama’s Department of Indoctrination (Oops Edumacayshun) spent $7 billion on troubled schools and the burning money released soot particles into the Troposphere. But let’s not be pointlessly partisan here.
George W. Bush’s Leave No Child Behind Act ignited a similar currency bonfire for an analogous disgusting dung heap of fail. So the Democrats can’t fix the skoolz, and the GOP can’t fix the skoolz. Hooked on FOnix Kant FiX no skoolz. It’s hopeless.
Yep. It’s hopeless. Troubled schools are going to stay “troubled” until they are shut down. Government investment in an increased burn rate of failure will only burn more assets encouraging failure. Here’s the money quote from the WaPo’s takedown of Arn Duncan and Barack Obama’s version of Education Fail Theatre.
One of the Obama administration’s signature efforts in education, which pumped billions of federal dollars into overhauling the nation’s worst schools, failed to produce meaningful results, according to a federal analysis. Test scores, graduation rates and college enrollment were no different in schools that received money through the School Improvement Grants program — the largest federal investment ever targeted to failing schools — than in schools that did not.
So if it is so utterless hopeless and the “youths” are DOOMED, what is the gravamen for such a stark conclusion? Here is what it is like in a “troubled” school.
Most of the blacks I taught simply had no interest in academic subjects. I taught history, and students would often say they didn’t want to do an assignment or they didn’t like history because it was all about white people. Of course, this was “diversity†history, in which every cowboy’s black cook got a special page on how he contributed to winning the West, but black children still found it inadequate. So I would throw up my hands and assign them a project on a real, historical black person. My favorite was Marcus Garvey. They had never heard of him, and I would tell them to research him, but they never did. They didn’t care and they didn’t want to do any work…..
There is an unutterable secret among teachers: Almost all realize that blacks do not respond to traditional white instruction. Does that put the lie to environmentalism? Not at all. It is what brings about endless, pointless innovation that is supposed to bring blacks up to the white level. The solution is more diversity–or put more generally, the solution is change. Change is an almost holy word in education, and you can fail a million times as long as you keep changing. That is why liberals keep revamping the curriculum and the way it is taught. For example, teachers are told that blacks need hands-on instruction and more group work.
So what should you do? Certainly not what Alabama has attempted. They’ve really only dumbed down the standards to argue thems not reely barntards. Just gut the exam so that drooling, solipsistic mongoloids can pass; and your state too can be a bacon of prawgres…
You see, The State of Alabama used to have an exam that prospective graduating seniors had to pass in order to get a diploma. It had lots of confusing stuff like reading, writing and even arithmetic. As a result, people who did nothing more in school than sit there and tolerate it without learning much of anything were never getting their participation trophies. So as soon as the educational establishment had an excuse,* they got rid of the meddlesome standards. Now everyone gets to be a winner!
This brings me to Propose The Alice Cooper Solution to “troubled” schools. These schools are troubled because they are essentially no different than concentration camps for unworkable young diversity. I don’t think the kids are to blame. They aren’t products of The Scottish or German Enlightenment and weren’t fed The Lutheran Catechism with their mother’s breast milk. They don’t get the parochial model of public education.
Horace Mann? He’s just some dead piece of whitebread. His concept of popular education only works in a high social capital environment with unanimity of what should be in the curriculum. You get that in Catholic High Schools. You won’t find that in any large urban public school system.
If the students morally or philosophically reject the curriculum, school becomes bullspit. Once the students have decided said school is bullspit; massive government intervention will only make it overmanaged bullspit. Managed bullspit still stinks.
The Alice Cooper Solution is then to get rid of the unworkable, incompetent schools. Let people have the money back that gets expropriated to prop up this enterprise of fail. Let parents and children decide for themselves what they want to learn, where they want to learn and to what standard they want to learn it. Then let the economy at large decide whether these people have made profitable decisions. As Alice Cooper sang it, our current “troubled” schools..
We have no class, we got no principles,
We’ve got no innocence and
We can’t even think of a word that rhymes.
This is how we fix “troubled” public schools..
