This means that by the time you receive a product, it has taken four or five hits from the legal corruption state, and so it is more expensive and there is less money to pay you a commensurate salary. In other words, the capitalism-socialism hybrid of modern France is collapsing exactly the same way as the Soviet Union did, by bleeding everyone dry in trying to support the subsidy state.

  These plant closures are GM’s revenge on Trump for having engaged in trade war with China, not realizing that in the long term, GM will come out ahead if China opens up to American products. However, there’s a wrinkle: GM has persistent quality control problems because it uses union labor. What they really need is an end to legal protection for unions. Unions drove out the good workers and good management alike. In the meantime, GM seems to be closing plants in diverse areas so that it can keep open plants in union-free, non-diverse places. To the market, things like unions, government, and diversity all fit within the same category, which is costs which do not return any reward and therefore should be avoided if at all possible. They will think the same way when it is time to replace the American worker with robots, and they will be right. Any workers too stupid to see that free union money will be passed on to consumers, thus making the products more expensive and less competitive leading to the industry being out-competed by foreign interests, deserve to lose their jobs for their outright imbecilic greed.
