People should remain attuned to their fundamental shaved monkey nature. It prevents us all from taking that gibbering simian in the mirror far too seriously. This then prevents the shaved monkey from suffering delusions of adequacy that fair poorly in combat against reality. I write this intro in honor of Baby Boom Poster-Brat Neil Young.

Legendary rocker Neil Young recently issued an ultimatum to the platform Spotify, which broadcasts many of his songs, as well as Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Like many Boomer celebrities who once proudly declared themselves anti-establishment rebels, Young has become nothing more than a preening Karen who dislikes Rogan’s show for allegedly spreading misinformation about COVID. Young’s demand was basically ‘either he goes or I do’ and you might say he chose poorly. Spotify basically told Young not to let the door hit him on the way out.

Once Neil Young’s ego deleted all the obvious in situ data, that oversized ego became a target-rich environment. It’s almost cliché to quip that “it’s better to shroom out, than to fade away.”

Too easy. It is like watching Vladimir Putin play the game of thrones against Joe Biden. It’s almost too sadistic to be funny. It finally becomes sad. Then you come down and recognize that people that are a whole lot like Neil Young are running Amerika. He totally Bidened the hell out of this one. I shake my head because Neil Young is no worse than the people who run Congress, The Supreme Court, and most of The Executive Branch.

Lynyrd Skynyrd summed up Neil Young’s cultural relevance fifty years ago. He was the guest who just would not leave back when Skynyrd toured in support of Street Survivors.

Well, I heard ol’ Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don’t need him around anyhow

Now he is a cranky alcoholic bemoaning a hellscape morning after. That makes him the archetype for a generation that has still insisted on running things long after it can no longer manage its own affairs. Neil Young could enjoy a happy and fulfilling retirement right about now. He could relax in a home that cares for its residents with a compassionate and respectful manner.

I think that was the subtle message Spotify was trying to send. The man is one meteor strike short of his rightful and befitting place in some museum of natural history. Like the people currently holding titular power in Amerika, Neil Young has long ago gone over the hill. The miracles of modern medicine prevent his interment under it.

Since this post stopped concerning either Joe Rogan or Neil Young at least two paragraphs ago, let’s address a more serious question. I am not too sure I want to see my choices A through E on that one. As a Fake Amerikan from Canada Neil Young is archetypical. He is also utterly irrelevant. Until we retire most of the generation that he represents as an archetype, Amerika will remain about as relevant as Neil Young will. Perhaps Vladimir Putin will show more mercy on Amerika than would the KGB handlers who professionally trained him.
