Marcus Garvey Day
Nationalists worldwide are celebrating Marcus Garvey today, August 17, at 1:00 PM CST when we will light candles in acknowledgement of the honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey and the millions of people who built and supported the Universal Negro Improvement Association, the largest and most powerful Black nationalist movement in the diaspora history of African people.
The time of one in the afternoon was chosen to symbolize the principal Garvey maxim of “one God, one aim, one destiny.” For nationalists, this describes what we believe every ethnic group should have, namely its own standards, purpose, goal, customs, gods, and territories. When nationalists celebrate this goal for each other independent of tribe, it comes closer to realization.
