From the Oh No! Anyway… department: Bashar Assad has been accused of running a Holocaust deathcamp in Syria.
Assad previously denied both killing thousands of detainees at Sednaya as well as using a secret crematorium to dispose of their remains in 2017.
Many detainees have revealed they were raped while imprisoned, and in some cases, forced to rape other inmates.
We have heard this story before. In fact, we hear it every time democracy goes to war. The other side are the bad guys and they bayonet babies, have secret police, execute dissidents, and burn the corpses so no one can tell. Gosh, those bad guys really are bad, not like us good democratic diverse and tolerant people amirite?
Humans always tell us to consider that the other guy might not be as bad as we are prone to assume… in this case, it is mostly like that it is we and not he who are caught up in a cult-like mentality, namely that of democracy. It encourages us to lie or at least play loose with the truth in order to feel better about our cult membership.
In democracy, you only get power by finding a virtuous victim and a sadistic scapegoat. Then you mobilize all the people who identify with the victims — the 90% of society whose job title would be “medium field hand” in any sane world — and have them destroy the scapegoat. It is the French Revolution over and over again.
Or as some have observed, the Peasant Rebellion if the peasants had won.
The story from Syria gets even more comical:
It was also reported an iron press that was allegedly used to crush and execute prisoners in Sednaya Prison was found in new videos shared by rebels as they liberated inmates.
Oh yes, they use a giant press to execute prisoners, not for industrial purposes. Never mind that they would have to take them out of secured areas to do so. No doubt the NGOs are busy clawing it with their nails so they can claim these were the last gestures of the innocent victims of these prisons.
Let us face the fact that all we have here are the words of the prisoners, never from the guards, at least until we beat it out of them and have some fake Nuremberg trials to make ourselves feel safe and morally superior again.
The Holocaust is not a lie — something similar happens whenever diversity causes problems, like lynchings in the American South or necklacing in Africa — but the Holocaust Narrative is, and so is this story out of Syria. The prisoners told us, and user-reported data is considered bad because humans lie and distort constantly.
In both cases, one side needed to rationalize both losing and being bailed out by another group that was ambivalent toward them, so they seized on Russian propaganda in one case and whining jihadis in the other, and came up with a giant scapegoat and rationalization exercise instead.
In reality, the West will as usual come to regret what has happened in Syria because displacing one strongman of enduring competence guarantees that lesser men will take his place, and now we will get the true crazies in Syria who are engineering jihad in other nearby states at the same time.
As it turns out, “people power” sucks because most people have no idea what they should want, and instead pick what sounds good, is praised in conversation, or what goes along with the inertia of the cult in its endless march toward democracy and suicide.
The people have chosen… and like in all committees and democracy, the majority tends toward avoiding actual but big problems and focusing on emotional minor issues instead so that everyone in the group “feels good” about what they have done. Reality is a different planet at that point.
They then rationalize their decisions by arguing from the victim-scapegoat cycle in which they must portray themselves as innocent victims and anyone who kept them from doing whatever they wanted to do as an evil scapegoat. In reality, in Syria the repressive Assad regime kept down even more repressive forces that later united under the banner of “democracy.”
